Zoom 9002

Image
Back in the Spring of 1991 I was moving back from Indiana and found out on my last day at work that I had a little bit of vacation that was cashed out. At the time I was single and my guitar was the most expensive item in my possession, and that includes the value of every car I'd owned up to that point. I quickly went to the local music store (I think it was wwbw.com ) and purchased a Zoom 9002 guitar effects processor. I believe it was around $350. It was kind of gimicky in that it attached to your guitar strap. Really inconvenient if you already had a tank of a guitar like my Les Paul Custom, but I really liked the idea of also being able to use it without plugging in to an amp and just using headphones. It was awesome. It made all kinds of sounds. Compression, Distortion, Eq, Pitch Shift, Phase, Flange, Chorus, Delay1 & 2, and Reverb1 & 2. 20 pre programmed effects banks, and 20 user definable effects banks. I used it alot. I have a Marshall amp with no reverb, and a

Latest brewing

So over a year ago I wanted to brew something to have at my son's high school graduation party for the adults. I don't even remember what flavor it was. I was moving the beer from the fermenting carboy in to the laundry sink, and the bottom of the glass carboy blew out. That took the wind out of my sails for quite a while. I think that winter I made wine, but no beer. Early this summer, before we left for a mission trip to Kenya, I brewed a "Dry Irish Stout". It turned out to have an off flavor early on. I attribute that to the sanitizer sitting in the stainless keg too long and leaching out in to the beer. It was okay after we got back. The off flavor had "relaxed" or dissipated. I recently made a batch of beer for a silent auction at work. I offered up 5 gallons, the winner got to pick from at least 12 different ales. The bid went to $126 which was pretty good. The auction was to benefit an employee who was on a motorcycle with his wife and got rear en

What am I brewing? Mule Juice

It's been quite a while since I posted. I haven't brewed much beer lately. Maybe one batch in the last year. I did make some home made blueberry wine from berries we picked locally. It was really good, much more dry than I would have expected and quite drinkable. The wine process was easier to do than the hard cider seeing that there was no "rhino fart" stage in the fermenting. When making cider apparently there's a common stage you hit where the smell is incredibly strong, something I didn't read about before starting the batch. We came home thinking there was a dead animal or something in the house. It stunk up both floors and was not pleasant. Luckily it goes away at the end of fermentation. The wine - no such odors. Most recently I have been "brewing" something, so to speak. We have been on a Moscow Mule kick and the ginger beer portion is rather expensive seeing that most come in 4 packs. I kiddingly said "I should brew ginger beer."

Hackintosh

The Hackintosh build went well. How could it not? I tried it step by step just like the one on Lifehacker.com. I had a few more issues and modified the process as I went, but the end result works like a dream! (Some people would say installing operating systems 3 or more times each would be a FAIL, but chalk it all up to learning!) Mine looks just like this pic, only I have a classy "Grave Digger" sticker on it too.

Chrome OS / Linux Mint / etc

This week I downloaded the Google Chrome Operating System via a link on dottech.org, that went to gdgt.com . It worked running it in Virtual Box (like VMWare), which virtualizes your OS. It runs under Window$ (or other operating systems) and lets you apply resources to run another OS inside your main one. It was cool. Spartan, to say the least. It comes up with Google Chrome browser, gmail, and some other select Google Apps, and Pandora Internet radio (I'm a big fan) which Google may have purchased, not sure. Anyway, they say it's geared toward netbooks and the like, and I can see where it would work SLICK for that. Engadget.com has instructions for loading it, so do some other sites. I'm downloading the torrent to load it from a 4gb USB stick right now. THAT application is useful. You'd be able to boot your Google login, iGoogle, Gmail, Wave (still up in the air on it's usefulness), Pandora radio, and some other useful apps from a usb drive on most any computer. I
