BEER TASTING

WHAT: Beer tasting
WHERE: Young's house. (Pelican Pub)
WHEN: Saturday, May 2nd at 5:30 (it's also Kentucky Derby Day, Ladies, wear hats if at all possible)
WHO: You, of course!


We will grill whatever you bring . Bring something else to munch on if you like.
(This is Glen's deal, so it's a basic "beer, meat, chips" type event)


It's best to be prompt so you can sample all the beers. This is not a "kill the keg" :') event, but make sure to bring enough for everyone to taste. Prior events have taught us to drink homebrew in moderation. (Modern venitilation has yet to catch up to noxious fume output when mass consumption occurs.)

Other commercial beer varieties are welcome so we can see how we stack up against them. The Medearis Brewing Company will be represented, but the brewmaster will be out fishing during this event. (We encourage the head beer wench to attend in his stead.)

What am I brewing? Mule Juice

It's been quite a while since I posted. I haven't brewed much beer lately. Maybe one batch in the last year. I did make some home made blueberry wine from berries we picked locally. It was really good, much more dry than I would have expected and quite drinkable. The wine process was easier to do than the hard cider seeing that there was no "rhino fart" stage in the fermenting. When making cider apparently there's a common stage you hit where the smell is incredibly strong, something I didn't read about before starting the batch. We came home thinking there was a dead animal or something in the house. It stunk up both floors and was not pleasant. Luckily it goes away at the end of fermentation. The wine - no such odors. Most recently I have been "brewing" something, so to speak. We have been on a Moscow Mule kick and the ginger beer portion is rather expensive seeing that most come in 4 packs. I kiddingly said "I should brew ginger beer."

Zoom 9002

Back in the Spring of 1991 I was moving back from Indiana and found out on my last day at work that I had a little bit of vacation that was cashed out. At the time I was single and my guitar was the most expensive item in my possession, and that includes the value of every car I'd owned up to that point. I quickly went to the local music store (I think it was wwbw.com ) and purchased a Zoom 9002 guitar effects processor. I believe it was around $350. It was kind of gimicky in that it attached to your guitar strap. Really inconvenient if you already had a tank of a guitar like my Les Paul Custom, but I really liked the idea of also being able to use it without plugging in to an amp and just using headphones. It was awesome. It made all kinds of sounds.
